Jehovahs Witnesses: What is a "Former Truth"?
THE WATCHTOWER PROPHET:
“So, does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to warn them of dangers and to declare things to come? These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet?…This ‘prophet’ was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are know as Jehovah’s Christian witnesses….Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a ‘prophet’ of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is to review the record. What does it show?” —The Watchtower, April 1, 1972, p. 197
*
1914: “…the ‘battle of the great day of God Almighty’ (Rev. 16:14), which will end in A.D. 1914 with the complete overthrow of earth’s present rulership, is already commenced.” —The Time Is At Hand, 1886, p. 101
*
1915: “…the ‘battle of the great day of God Almighty’ (Rev. 16:14), which will end in A.D. 1915, with the complete overthrow of earth’s present rulership, is already commenced.” —The Time Is At Hand, 1915 edition, p. 101
*
1918: “Also, in the year 1918, when God destroys the churches wholesale and the church members by millions, it shall be that any that escape shall come to the works of Pastor Russell to learn the meaning of the downfall of ‘Christianity.’ ” —The Finished Mystery, 1917, p. 485
*
1925: “…1925 shall mark the resurrection of the faithful worthies of old….based upon the promises set forth in the divine Word, we must reach the positive and indisputable conclusion that millions now living will never die.” —Millions Now Living Will Never Die, 1920, p. 97
*
1940’s: “It would therefore appear that there is no reasonable or Scriptural injunction to bring children into the world immediately before Armageddon, where we now are.” —The Watchtower, November 1, 1938, p. 324
*
1975: “Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world’s end.” —Kingdom Ministry, May 1974, p. 3
Most people who are familiar with the history of this organization realize that since the first Watchtower in 1879, it has had a history of proclaiming the end of the world on several dates: 1914, 1915, 1918, 1925, 1940’s, 1975. But, does this mean that the Watch Tower Society is a false prophet? Let’s examine what the Society says “False Prophets” are:
“Individuals and organizations proclaiming messages that they attribute to a super human source but that do not originate with the true God and are not in harmony with his revealed will.” —Reasoning from the Scriptures, 1985, 1989, p. 132
Deuteronomy 18:20-22 states:
“But the prophet who shall speak a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die. And you may say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’ When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”
The Watch TowerT gets "New Light" or brighter light as per Proverb 4:18
But really the WT is
Proverbs 4:19 The way of the wicked ones is like the gloom; they have not known at what they keep stumbling.
is there any truth to the following story?

On September 29, 2008 US District Court Judge R. Barclay Surrick, the federal magistrate for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled in the matter of Philip J. Berg vs Barack Hussein Obama, et al as the world was distracted by the $700 billion subprime mortgage crisis. Obama signed a breathe of relief as the mainstream media chose to ignore the question: "Can Senator Barack Hussein Obama legally seek the office of President of the United States?"
The flap began in June when National Review’s Jim Geraghty raised the question and asked the Obama Campaign to release a copy of his birth certificate in order to prove that he actually was born in the United States. (Reports had previously surfaced claiming that Obama’s Kenyan grandmother, Sarah Hussein Obama, told reporters that Obama was not born in Hawaii, but in Kenya. She reportedly told reporters that when her son, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. returned to Kenya he was accompanied by a pregnant white wife who was close to term.)
Obama’s family did not take to Stanley Ann Dunham Obama well according to Sarah Obama because she was white. Shortly after she arrived in Kenya Stanley Ann decided to return to Hawaii because she did not like how Muslim men treated their wives in Kenya. However, because she was near term the airline would not let her fly until after the birth of her baby. Obama’s grandmother said the baby was born in Kenya and that shortly after Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. was born, Stanley Ann returned to Hawaii.
Purportedly, when she arrived back in Hawaii, Stanley Anne registered her son’s live birth as an event which had just happened—in Hawaii. This supposition is based on the appearance, shortly after Nov. 6, 2007, of a Hawaiian birth certificate that was issued, as a duplicate birth certificate, by the State of Hawaii to a US Senator who requested it.
While the Internet screamed that the birth certificate, which appeared on the Obama Campaign’s "Fight The Smears" website and was also downloaded and used by far left blogger Markos Zuniga on his website, Daily Kos, it was not an electronic image concocted by Daily KOs as was hypothesized by a self-described cyvbersleuth who uses the cyber pseudonym Techdude. It was the real McCoy—even if it was issued as a political favor to a prospective Democratic presidential candidate by a Democrat official in Hawaii. The county clerk who issued the document, which purports to be a copy of an original document, was date stamped "Nov. 6, 2007" on the reverse side of the birth certificate in blue ink which bled through and is visible on the front of the electronic image.
Attorney Philip J. Berg, the former head of the Montgomery County. Pennsylvania Democratic Party and a former member of the Democratic State Convention and, reportedly a Hillary Clinton supporter, wanted to learn the truth from the myriad of rumors that also suggested that Sen. Obama may also have been a citizen of Indonesia. The only consistent part of the story was Stanley Ann returning to Hawaii to claim he had been in the United States and was a US citizen. In his ruling, Judge Surrick noted that the "…cause came before the United States District Court Judge, Honorable R. Barclay Surrick on defendant Barack Hussein Obama and the Democratic National Committee’s motion to dismiss." The order continued, "Having reviewed the motion and plaintiff’s opposition to said motion and for good cause shown, it is hereby ordered that the motion to dismiss pursuant to F.R.C.P. 12(b)(1) and 12(b)(6) is denied. It is further order of this court that the following discovery is to be turned over to plaintiff within three (3) days.
1. Obama’s "vault" version (certified copy of his "original" long version) birth certificate; and
2. a certified copy of Obama’s Certificate of Citizenship;
3. a certified copy of Obama’s oath of allegiance."
In his original filing, Berg specifically asked for those three items. Berg told the court that "…at the time Plaintiff’s complaint was filed, Plaintiff was requesting protections from the court in order to stop Obama from being nominated by the DNC as the Democratic Presidential Nominee as Obama is not eligible to serve as President of the United States. However, Obama was nominated by the DNC…For that reason, Plaintiff must amend his complaint and will be amending this complaint to file a First Amendment complaint…."
Berg argued that he felt it was the role of the Federal Election Commission to ensure that presidential and congressional candidates are eligible to hold the positions for which they were seeking, and that those candidates run a fair and legitimate campaign. "In vetting the presidential candidate," Berg argued, "the DNC and the FEC are required to ensure the eligibility requirements pursuant to our Constitution are met and the Presi

Letter to the editor: “Andrea Keene’s selective morality is once again showing through in her July 15 letter. This time she expresses her abhorrence of abortion. But how we see only what we choose to see! I wonder if any of the anti-abortionists have considered the widespread use of fertility drugs as the moral equivalent of abortion, and, if they have, why they haven’t come out against them, too. The use of these drugs frequently results in multiple births, which leads to the death of one of the infants, often after an agonizing struggle for survival. According to the rules of the pro-lifers, isn’t this murder?”
3. In one of her columns, Abigail Van Buren printed the letter of “I’d rather be a widow.” The letter writer, a divorcée, complained about widows who said they had a hard time coping. Far better, she wrote, to be a widow than to be a divorcée, who are all “rejects” who have been “publicly dumped” and are avoided “like they have leprosy.” Abby recognized the pseudoreasoning for what it was, though she did not call it by our name. What is our name for it?
5. Letter to the editor: “Once again the Park Commission is considering closing North Park Drive for the sake of a few joggers and bicyclists. These so-called fitness enthusiasts would evidently have us give up to them for their own private use every last square inch of Walnut Grove. Then anytime anyone wanted a picnic, he would have to park at the edge of the park and carry everything in—ice chests, chairs, maybe even grandma. I certainly hope the Commission keeps the entire park open for everyone to use.”
6. “Some Christian—and other—groups are protesting against the placing, on federal property near the White House, of a set of plastic figurines representing a devout Jewish family in ancient Judaea. The protestors would of course deny that they are driven by any anti-Semitic motivation. Still, we wonder: Would they raise the same objections (of unconstitutionality, etc.) if the scene depicted a modern, secularized Gentile family?” — National Review
8. From a letter to the editor: “The counties of Michigan clearly need the ability to raise additional sources of revenue, not only to meet the demands of growth but also to maintain existing levels of service. For without these sources those demands will not be met, and it will be impossible to maintain services even at present levels.”
9. In February 1992, a representative of the Catholic Church in Puerto Rico gave a radio interview (broadcast on National Public Radio) in which he said that the Church was against the use of condoms. Even though the rate of AIDS infection in Puerto Rico is much higher than on the U.S. mainland, the spokesman said that the Church could not support the use of condoms because they are not absolutely reliable in preventing the spread of the disease. “If you could prove that condoms were absolutely dependable in preventing a person from contracting AIDS, then the Church could support their use.”

The Talking Snake Theory: Creation Science & History For Christian Children – by Pastor Deacon Fred
historical Creation Science book for Christian youngsters. Readers journey back 6,000 years ago in time to the actual date when God created the first two humans from a pile of dirt and a spare rib. It is a time and place that, despite the first hand accounts from eyewitnesses in the Bible, most ignorant secular scholars and scientists refuse to believe existed. For True Christians®, Jews, and Muslims, our entire belief systems hinge on a few words from a talking snake who appeared around this same time. By using fun characters and cartoons based on factual accounts from the Holy Bible book of Genesis (one of the few history books that all three major religions in the world agree on), youngsters are taken on an educational journey they will remember for the rest of their lives. Children will learn the truth about how snakes used to have legs until one of them opened up his mouth and gave Eve (the first woman) some bad dieting advice. After God kicks Adam and Eve (the first humans) out of his Garden for listening to a talking snake, readers will follow the first family as they begin to populate the Earth. The author uses an imaginary character named "Becky," who is Cain’s daughter by his mother, Eve, to explain how it was possible for Adam and Cain to find another woman to help them make more babies. After Becky agrees to be her dad’s wife, they have more children together so that Adam can make babies with his grandchildren instead of his daughters, and so on. Young readers will want to use a brown pen to color the face of Ham who appears right near the end of the book after God turns him into the first Negro for staring at his dad’s (Noah’s) hootchie.
i dare you athiesits to refute this peer reviewed scientific nobel prize winning archeologically sound evidence.

Brilliant!! I am now a believer!……..
What do you think about this? In Tel Megiddo, the inscription "to God Jesus Christ" dated 230 A.D. discovered?
It was clearly indicated that the Christians who worshiped in the discovered hall were Roman soldiers. The inscription was located on a mosaic published by Israel’s leading Greek epigraphist Leah Di Segni. This is the earliest inscription ever found in Israel, and perhaps anywhere that mentions Jesus Christ.!!!! The site was dated by a number of indications: pottery, coins, and the paleography of Greek inscriptions. For me this is exciting because it points to the longevity of belief in the Deity of Jesus Christ.
I cite "Biblical Archaeology Review" March/April 2007 edition. A publication not devoted to Christianity or any other faith, but to archaeology.
Very interesting, dont you agree?
How does it make you feel that even the early Christians believed that Jesus Christ is God revealed in human form???
Dr. Gnos—read it for yourself, it is good objective archaeology, they will be the first to correct you if you say B.C. means before Christ. It means Before Chronological Era. The have no bias.
Angel tre—Consider the account of the Roman Soldiers, who upon pain of death were ordered not to allow anyone to remove the body of Christ from the tomb? Bet they didnt go back to their superiors to report that His body was removed.
Maggie I sent you an email.
The second inscription, on the northern side, honors the man who paid for the mosaic and the artisan who made it: "Gaianus, also called Porphyrius. centurion, our brother, has made the pavement at his own expense as an act of liberality. Brutius carried out the work.." A Roman centurion or Roman officer was therefore the donor of the prayer hall. The Biblical Archaeology Review, relates to archaeology of the Biblical period. If you are looking for a Christian bias magazine, this is not the one for you. It is based on science, and archaeology alone. Basically they dont care if their conclusions offend you or not, just read the letters to the editor. I must admit I did not like it at first. But later I REALLY CAME TO APPRECIATE OBJECTIVITY WITHOUT BIAS. There I said it. Its better proof actually if it does come from an unbiased source.
Geoffrey—The Mosaic picture I am looking at, does not have the Greek Characters you cite. There are some similarities, but some differences as well, what resource are you using?
I would objectively like to review all other materials.
or maybe it refers to the asencion of jesus to god above.
My fellow atheists, have you noticed?
I’ve noticed that I know a lot more about the bible, how the canon was developed, the historic biblical era, and the development of the christian church since I walked into the light of atheism.
So far, I’ve noticed that in the various "you’re going to burn in hell" emails that I receive from time to time that when I press some of these christians, they know very little about the bible and how it developed into scripture.
Some simple questions like why does John (the last gospel written) change the date of the crucifixion from the synoptic gospels. I think that if more people reviewed the history of christianity that we would have more atheists.
Your thoughts?
Scott B, where in my question did I say "all christians"? I made a point of commenting on the emails I get (and will get as a result of this question)
Way to pay attention to details there sport…
and if you only knew what my studies consisted of you would look even more foolish than you do now, scott B.
Tell ya what, learn to read the bible in greek and latin and then get back to me
NewCatholic, if only the catholic church was not responsible for the elimination of the other christian faiths of the first three christian centuries (e.g. Gnostics, Marcionites, Ebionites, etc…)
Reviewing the history of this era showed that the reason christians today believe in the three part divinity is because this group "won". Simple as that.
I wish I knew the bible as much as you did. It would help me out to defend why I chose not to believe as well as why I dislike organized religion.
Evolutionists: why do you have blind faith in the mountains of evidence and testing that point to evolution?
How can you criticize Christians for having blind faith in the bible when you have blind faith in peer-reviewed scientific findings of biological anthropology that are rigorously studied and tested and rely heavily on other peer-reviewed findings of archaeology, paleontology, geology, chemical dating, and many other fields and is no way or shape supported only by a few random "evolutionist scientists" but rather the majority of the scientific community?
After all, it’s just a theory. Like heliocentricism.
Shoot, sorry for the double question.
PaulCyp and Serena: Are you telling me this "gravity" is what holds me down, and not SINS?
It is scientifically proven that people have fewer sins on the moon.
Wolfgang DelaSangre: I have to break character for a second to say that you should really ask those questions in the science section of Y!A– have you ever asked a scientist those moronic questions? They would rip you up in two seconds.
Yes, clearly my position is baseless and completely unsupported because I don’t have a poorly-translated and re-re-re-translated book of Bronze Age superstition to back it up. Thanks for showing me the error of my Evil-utionist ways!

Cardiologist Randolph Byrd did the first major clinical study on distant healing at San Francisco General Hospital in 1988. He divided 393 heart patients into two groups.
One group received prayers from Christians outside the hospital; the other did not. His study, published in the Southern Medical Journal, found that the patients who were not prayed for needed more medication and were more likely to suffer complications. While it had flaws, the study garnered considerable attention.
Since then investigators have continued to look at the possible effects of remote prayer and similar distant healing techniques in the treatment of heart disease, AIDS and other illnesses as well as infertility. Numerous experiments involving prayer and distant healing have also been done involving animals and plants. One such study found that healers can increase the healing rate of wounds in mice.
“Critics often complain that if you see positive results in humans it is because of positive thinking, or the placebo response,” said Dr. Larry Dossey, a retired internist in Santa Fe, N.M., and author of numerous books on spirituality and healing. “Microbes don’t think positively, and are not subject to the placebo response.”
In the early ’90s, Elisabeth Targ and colleagues at the California Pacific Medical Center studied the effects of distant healing on 20 AIDS patients. Schlitz, who worked with Targ (who died of a brain tumor in 2002), said the study found those receiving prayer survived in greater numbers, got sick less often and recovered faster than those who did not. A follow-up study of 40 patients found similar results.
At about the same time, Duke University’s Krucoff was leading a small but unusual experiment to determine if cardiac patients would recover faster after angioplasty surgery if they received any of several intangible (noetic) treatments. His study compared the results of healing touch, stress relaxation and distant healing with standard care.
Spiritual healers from around the world – including Jews leaving prayers at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, Buddhists praying in monasteries in Nepal and France, Carmelite nuns in Baltimore offering prayers during vespers, and Moravians, Baptists and fundamental Christians praying during church – each simultaneously prayed for one of several designated groups in the study.
All of the groups did better than the standard care group, with those receiving distant prayers doing best. He has since completed a larger, multi-site study. That study – the largest to date – is currently under review for publication in a medical journal.
